All About Jam Sessions

What do I need to prepare?

Get signed up as a member by filling out our membership form. Membership costs nothing. It provides you access to our music library and adds you to our mailing list for reminders on jam sessions and other jam events.

Check out our library of tunes to find a song you would like us all to play. There is a big selection of many tunes from many genres. If you have a song you would like us all to play that is not on our list, email it to leaders@seacoastjam.org or post it to the library in the members only section. If you don’t want to pick a song for your first session, just come and play the other selections. If you change your mind in the middle of your first session on a song let the leaders know and we will play the song.

At the jam session

Jam sessions are typically two hours. Come fifteen minutes early to find a seat. Come earlier if you want to grab a bite at one of our host venues. (You can generally manage a drink during the jam, but eating and playing generally doesn’t work.) We arrange ourselves in a big circle. The jam leaders are available before the jams to answer questions.

We will typically warm up with an easy, fun starter song to get everyone warmed up. We then go around the circle, playing the selection that each person has chosen. People often like to sing their song, so a microphone is passed around for the vocals. Most songs provide opportunities for breaks (improvised solos), which the leaders help to organize.

We generally take a 10 minute break half-way through the session. A great time to get a drink and meet the other players.

In Between Jam Sessions

Check out our other opportunities to play your music. Our calendar features lots of events such as a Theater Showcase for solo performances, open-mic style fundraisers for local charities and more.
